How to fix a creased dust jacket

A step-by-step guide from someone who does it very often. Like too often. Sometimes my mum scoffs at what I consider creased.

Step 1:

Take jacket off book.

Step 2:

Incredibly important:

Do NOT fill your iron with water. If it has water in it, pour it out.

Plug in iron. Yes an actual iron for clothes. Turn iron on to lowest labelled setting.

(Though all irons are different, but mine has a circular dial thing. You can adjust it wherever you want, but there's also labels around the dial, like 'Cotton' or 'Silk'. My lowest one is cotton, so I use cotton. I would highly caution any beginner against using silk--it's extremely hot for the paper).

Step 3:

Grab a tea towel or two. (As you're a beginner grab two). Put one on a flat surface.

Step 4:

Lay jacket on tea town, with the blank side facing up (it it's double sided, you'll have to decide which side you want to risk. Maybe practice on one with a blank side first. Either way I iron on both sides to make it perfect, so it doesn't matter for me, but for your first attempt try a blank one.)

Step 5:

Lay second tea towel on top of jacket.

Step 6:

Iron it. As you're on the lowest setting WITH the tea towel, it's really, really safe. I actually don't use a tea towel on top, but I still use the 'Cotton' setting. If nothing much is happening for you, you can turn up the heat a little and try again until you find a setting that works. Once you're experienced you can just ditch the top tea towel and turn down the heat again accordingly, but the tea towel is like a safety blanket.

I am not responsible for any flops😂

Step 7:

Turn off iron and fold wonderfully un-creased jacket back on book. Maybe stack a few books on top of the book if it's acting up.

Now you have a perfect book again.
